Do you need specific installation solutions?

Please follow the 3M™ Paint Protection Film Installation Guidelines. Scotchgard™ PPF Pro Series 200, 3M™ PPF Series 150 and 3M™ PPF Series 100 have a firmer adhesive which allows for more working time and decrease installation related defects. The optimized adhesive also helps to minimize lift lines, improve repositioning and reduce adhesive marks.

Can heat be added to the film to make it more pliable?

Many installers use a steamer or hot water in their solutions to improve conformability. We do not recommend a heat gun or torch. A heat gun can be used for setting the edges or recessed areas to make sure they are down all the way during post installation inspection.

Is this film self-healing, and can I show a self-healing demo with my customer as I do with other films?

Yes. Scotchgard™ PPF Pro Series, Scotchgard™ PPF Pro Series 200, 3M™ PPF Series 150 and 3M™ PPF Series 100 are all self-healing PPF
films. Lightly scratch the film surface with a copper brush, then apply heat to remove scratches or marks. You can also use hot water or a heat gun.

What is the recommended installation temperature for PPF?

Environmental and vehicle application temperatures of 60°F to 85°F (16°C to 30°C) can be used. However, 3M recommends 70°F to 79° (21°C to 26°C) as the optimal application temperature.

How is the adhesive different on Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film Pro Series 200, 3M™ PPF Series 150 and 3M™ Paint Protection Film Series 100, compared to the other 3M™ or Scotchgard™ PPF films?

Scotchgard™ PPF Pro Series 200, 3M™ PPF Series 150 and 3M™ PPF Series 100 have an optimized and firmer adhesive that allows for
more working time and repositioning during installation. The optimized adhesive also helps to minimize lift lines and adhesive marks.

Can the car be run through a car wash? If so, how long do you have to wait before doing so?

Do not wash for first 72 hours after installation. Hand wash your vehicle whenever possible. If you must send it through the car wash, choose the touchless option as brush car washes may dull and scratch the film as well as lift the edge of the film.

What auto car wax or coating products can I apply to the PPF after installation?

After film installation, wait one week before waxing your vehicle to help ensure proper adhesion build of the film has been achieved. No
special maintenance is required but if you would like to wax your vehicle we recommend the following products:

  • 3M™ Perfect-It™ Show Car Paste Wax (PN39526) can be applied after several days or within a couple months after PPF
installation. Users should then regularly wash and recoat the surface going forward.
  • Alternatively, 3M™ Ceramic Coating or 3M™ Ceramic Boost can applied be for additional hydrophobicity, stain resistance, and easy clean features.
  • Do NOT use waxes containing dyes, abrasive polishes, and/or rubbing compounds. The abrasive particles will damage the film
surface and result in a loss of surface quality.

After waxing your car, you can remove any wax build-up along film edges with a lint-free cloth. Visit www.3M.com/automotive to order 3M’s Car Wash Soap, Waxes, Polishes and High-Performance Detailing Cloths.

How can a stain be removed from the paint protection film?

Some stains can be removed by soaking a microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol or white distilled vinegar. Hold on the stain for 5-10
minutes and rinse with water. If the stain does not come out immediately, leave in the sun for one day.

How much stretch can be applied to the paint protection film during a bulk installation?

It is recommended to not stretch the paint protection film more than 15%. Overstretching the film can cause adhesive marking when
applying to complex areas.

Is there a cap sheet on the Scotchgard™ PPF and 3M™ PPF products? Why?

Yes, depending on your location, 3M™ PPFs have cap sheet and no cap sheet options. The cap sheet helps protect the PPF until you’re
ready to use it. Watch the 3M PPF Easy Cap Sheet Removal video.

How long to wait before applying paint protection film on a repainted vehicle?

Follow the paint supplier’s recommendations. Most installers wait at least 30 days to minimize risk.

What does “low surface energy” mean?

It refers to a paint protection film with hydrophobic qualities – water beading action on the surface of the film. Watch the Scotchgard™ PPF Pro Series 200 Product Benefit video for an example of the features of a low surface energy coating.

What 3M™ Knifeless™ Tape is best with paint protection film?

3M™ Knifeless™ Tape Precision Line is the recommended for PPF use. Installers should test and approve the tape before using in bulk.

What is the best way to handle and store partial remaining rolls of PPF films?

It is recommended to hold the top of the core with one hand and firmly pull any slack out of the PPF roll. Then tape from the center out to
the edges while keeping the roll tight. Watch the 3M PPF Handling and Storage video.
