Lower Energy Costs at the Office with 3M™ Climate Control Film

Next

If the winter chill has started seeping through your office windows, consider installing 3M™ Thinsulate™ Climate Control Window Film.

3M™ Thinsulate™ film is scientifically proven to diminish heat or cold pockets near your windows and reduce high energy costs associated with climate control. The film’s control properties also reduce glare and help block harmful UV rays.

The Science Behind Climate Control Film

Thinsulate™ climate control film is made with a low emission (Low-E) textile that specializes in retaining interior temperatures. Low-E film helps maintain desired temperatures against hot or cold weather and can significantly reduce UV light transmission and solar glare. Installation can upgrade a single-pane window’s climate control capacity to that of a double-pane window, and of a double-pane window to that of a triple-pane window.

3M™ Thinsulate™ film is available in two variations: the Thinsulate 40 and Thinsulate 75.

Thinsulate 40 film is designed to minimize electromagnetic emissions responsible for undesirable heat channeling while providing excellent glare reduction. The Thinsulate 40 can reduce heat loss by up to 39% and heat gain by 50%, rejecting as much as 67% of total solar energy. It is most distinguished, however, in its glare-reducing potency, which stands as high as 59%. In addition to superb climate control and glare reduction, Thinsulate 40 film virtually eliminates UV light transmission, posting a rejection rate of up to 99.9%.

The Thinsulate 75 provides low heat emission while being effectively imperceptible. Despite its crystal-clear look, Thinsulate 75 film rejects as much as 63% of total solar energy transmission, of which includes up to 40% heat loss and 37% heat gain reduction rates. Thinsulate 75 film can also diminish 99.9% of UV light and as much as 17% of solar glare.

The Benefits of Climate Control Film

Low-E Thinsulate™ films can provide your employees with a comfortable workspace and substantially reduce climate control expenses. These films help maintain interior heating during the winter and cool air during the summer, in addition to deterring pesky solar glare and UV light.

Designed and manufactured by 3M’s renowned development team, Thinsulate™ film can be just as or more effective than new glass installations, while costing a fraction of the cost of traditional methods. Installation is fast, affordable and is performed by local 3M certified dealers.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, about 40% of heating loss in commercial buildings is attributed to windows. For reference, a study conducted by Cornell University concluded that “ single pane window loses 20 times as much heat as the same area in an adjacent well-insulated wall.” By offering up to 40% heat loss reduction, Thinsulate™ film can significantly reduce such rates from your office and provide payback in as little as three years. Climate control features also apply to heat gain, of which Thinsulate™ film extends a reduction rate of up to 50%.

Thinsulate™ film’s low energy emission rates promote a comfortable and healthy work environment year-round. Insulated offices can remain warm during cold winters and cool against unbearably hot summers. Its ability to diminish UV light responsible for fading furnishing, as well as disruptive solar glare, also makes 3M™ Thinsulate™ film an ideal choice for upgrading office windows.

In a case study of Low-E Thinsulate™ film, 1,100 square feet of Thinsulate 75 film was notably installed at Minnesota’s official Governor’s Residence. It being a nationally registered historic site, 3M™ Thinsulate™ film was the clear solution to help preserve the residence’s artifacts and original 1912 construction by minimizing UV light transmission and temperature deviations.
