How to Care for Window Film on Your Home
So you’re thinking about window film, but you’re worried about maintenance. Fear not … 3M™ Window Film is almost maintenance free! When it comes to caring for your window film, the most important thing is that you give it time to set after installation.
After installation, wait at least 30 days before washing your windows. Then, you can use synthetic sponges, squeegees or soft cloths to wash your windows. Any common cleaning solution, including ammonia-based products, can be used as well.
Do not use any abrasive cleaners or bristled brushes as they could scratch the film. Also, don’t apply tape or any other adhesives to the film as it could void the warranty.
Keep in mind that your film may appear hazy for up to 30 days after installation. That’s due to the moisture that was present when applying the film. It will go away on its own.
When it comes to residential window films, 3M offers a lifetime warranty on most applications. This mean that 3M, one of America’s most-trusted brands, will back its film for as long as you live in your home.
Residential window films from 3M can last up to 20 years with proper care, so although you’re covered by warranty protection, your films typically won’t need to be changed more than once every couple decades.
Many of Accent’s long-term dealers do a large number of warranty-related jobs, replacing film that they originally installed more than 20 years ago.
