• 3M Window Film Helps Protect Sea Turtles

     In Energy Savings

Sea turtle nesting season starts in May. Although almost all species of sea turtles are endangered, recent efforts to protect the animal have shown progress. In 2016, for example, more Loggerhead nests were recorded in Florida than ever before.

Many counties and states have laws regarding light emission from beachfront properties. For Florida’s protection ordinances by county, visit the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website.

To support the continued growth of our sea turtle population, Accent Distributing sponsored the Loggerhead Marinelife Center to spread the word about safe light emission on beachfront property.

Artificial light from beachfront properties can be disorienting to the sea turtles because they use natural light to find the ocean. Therefore, beachfront properties need to be prepared with window treatments that limit light emission. This can include window films.

Accent Distributing is proud to work with the Loggerhead Marinelife Center to promote the safety and welfare of sea turtles on Florida’s coastline. 3M™ Window Films can help beachfront home and business owners reduce the glare of artificial lights and minimize human interference in the sea turtle nesting process. Eliminating artificial lights allows turtle hatchlings to find their way safely to the water and protects the oceans all Floridians cherish.

Loggerhead Marinelife Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit education and ocean conservation facility located in Juno Beach, Florida. Its mission is to promote conservation of ocean ecosystems with a special focus on threatened and endangered sea turtles. Its vision is to be recognized locally and internationally as the leading authority in sea turtle education, research and rehabilitation.
